Why Go?

Why should you go on a short-term mission trip?

Faithbridge is committed to our Mission Statement: Making More and Stronger Disciples of Jesus Christ, Who Make More and Stronger Disciples of Jesus Christ not only here in NW Houston, but in obedience to the Great Commission, by sending Faithbridge members to serve outside the country on short-term mission trips.

Short-Term missions allow members of our faith family to pour themselves out for the sake of the least, the last and the lost, for the benefit of the global church. Our prayer is as our members go to serve the global church on short-term trips, God will use that exposure of different contexts to prompt many to serve in longer capacities at home and abroad.

For many, going on a short term mission trip and being away from the comforts and distractions of home allows them to fully hear God, and understand His life mission for them. Each Faithbridge mission trip is designed for the participants to grow in their faith while ministering to the needs of others.

Convinced to consider it? Your next steps are outlined here.

Step 1: Pray

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!"  -- Isaiah 6:8

Has God put this on your heart? Are you obedient to His calling? Don’t allow your own fears to be an obstacle to what God wants you to do. As a believer, the Holy Spirit is alive and working through you. Has He been prompting you to go and make disciples of all nations? Ask in prayer if this is the right direction for you at this time. Be open to hearing the voice of God and listen to what He is saying.

If it is, do not allow fears of your own physical, financial or spiritual limitations stand in the way of God’s plan for your life. He will equip you to serve in obedience to His Word. You will be blessed and will be a blessing to others, only if you are obedient to the call on your heart.

Step 2: Apply

Review the upcoming trips.  Download the application. Turn in with your deposit.  Raise your support.

It really is that simple.

Review the trips and pray for God’s leading. Is there a particular ministry that pulls at your heart?
Come to an information meeting and get the details.

Stop by the Bridging Center and talk with Bridging Coordinator Peggy Burdon or a team volunteer.  We'll put you in touch with the different Team Leaders to hear more about their ministries and the short-term trips.

Once you make your decision about which trip you want to participate in, download the application and turn it in with your deposit of $200. Once it has been received, you'll get all the details about how to raise support.  The Bridging Ministry has great programs and tips to make the mission trip process easy for both new and seasoned mission team members.

Step 3: Go!

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? –Romans 10:13-14

We are in agreement with David Platt, Author of Radical, who says: “We must send believers to preach so that they may hear and some may believe and call on the name of the Lord and be saved! The Great Commission is not an EITHER/OR option, but a BOTH/AND command. From cover to cover, the Bible teaches that all the church – not just select individuals, but all the church is created to reflect all the glory of God to all the world. We are all commanded and commissioned to make disciples of all nations. Each of us must Pray and Give and GO.”

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. -- Matthew:19-20
